OKI SATO, STUDIO NENDO

The founder of the Nendo studio is a Japanese designer and architect. Born in Canada and raised in Japan, Nendo is a graduate of the architecture school of the prestige Waseda university. Nendo still lives in Japan today but his non-stop, busy line of work keeps him traveling around the world year-round. The first step in his design career was random. He visited the Milan furniture exhibit and was won over by the ease and charm of the field. Shortly after he founded the Nendo studio along with his friend and partner Akihiro Eato. His broad line of work contains a rich variety of product design project as well as interior design and architecture. Nendo’s method puts all those different fields into one creative journey, he said they all start with an idea – only the product differs. His studio core values are to create “Wow moments” and get people to notice things they never notice and make it better, tell a story and be accessible to all. Those values translate into sophisticated but simple design and characterized with minimal aesthetics that are read clearly, not forced with a delicate vibe that is almost poetic. Experimenting with shapes and materials is one of the important parts of the studio work and most of Nendo’s exhibits includes a look into his work process and research stages. Nendo designs are part of many brands, his exhibitions are displayed all over the world and collaborations with companies are regularly shown in Milan’s design week. One of his collaborations in Milan design week included the Israeli “Ceaser Stone” Company, when he created the stone garden. He won many international awards – Red Dor and Doro Compaso; Numerous Designer of the year awards by many international events and voted as a design influencer by Wallpaper and EL Décor Magazines. His works are part of museum exhibitions all over the world, even Israel museum and Hulun Design museums that held an impressive retrospective event of his designs.
