Philippe Starck

Born in Paris in 1949. He was close to his dad as a young child and worked closely with him. His dad was an aviation engineer and spent long hours cutting, gluing, planning, designing, and taking apart bikes, motorcycles and other items.” His plan was that I’ll manufacture missiles.” Said Starck. He studied in École Nissim de Camondo in Paris. When he was only 19, at 1968, he started his first design company that specialized in designing inflatable products. Since 1975, he has been an interior designer and an independent product designer. He became known for a wide array of design skills and specialized in designing hotels, furniture and even houseware products. Under his belt are also private homes, apartment complexes and commercial sites. In Paris, there’s even a street named after him: “La rue Starck”! He won many awards for his work such as Oscar de luminaire and Grand Prix. His products got their unique signature of organic, flowing style with a mix of styles while combining current and early decades. He loves mixing unusual materials. “I live the life of a monk,” he said about himself, “my style is the total liberty I have in my my work.”
